The Shortlist is free on purpose. It is the part of the Stack I would hand to anyone, and I want to be honest about what it does and does not do.
What it is
A short PDF that does one job: narrow the field. There are hundreds of AI tools and platforms competing for your attention. The Shortlist picks one per job for selling prints, products, apparel, and digital downloads, and says what each one is for.
Nothing more. No hype, no twenty alternatives.
What a determined artist can do with it
If you are the tenacious type, you can run with the Shortlist alone:
- Open a store on the recommended platform.
- Connect a print partner.
- Pick a scheduler and an email tool.
- Start learning to work with an AI assistant.
Everything on the list is real, popular, and documented. Plenty of people have figured them out through each tool's own help pages and a lot of patience.
Where you feel the gap
Here is the honest part. The Shortlist tells you what to use. It does not tell you the order, the settings, or the traps. That is where people slow down:
- Which step comes first, and which can wait.
- Where each tool hides its key, and what to do with it.
- The settings that quietly block a product from selling.
- What to do when a menu does not match the tutorial.
Those gaps are not a lack of ability. They are the cost of a map without directions. The paid parts of the Stack fill them in: a step-by-step guide, an assistant that walks you through it, a prompt library, and for the Command Center a visual console.
Who should stop at the Shortlist
If you enjoy figuring tools out, have time, and just want to know where to point your effort, the free list may be all you need. That is a perfectly good outcome.
Who should keep going
If the thought of piecing it together makes you tired, or you have already started and stalled, a guide that does the connecting alongside you will probably feel like relief.
One more thing
The Shortlist asks for an email address and one simple question about what you make and where you sell. That is the price. Your answers help me see what artists actually want, and the welcome email invites you to tell me which tool you wish the Stack hooked up.
Takeaway
Narrowing the field is valuable by itself. Choosing a short list and sticking with it beats endless comparison every time.
Next: why tools keep changing, and how to build a system that survives it.
